Wax Wednesday special edition : Record Store Day 2012!
A brief explanation of RSD: for 5 years now, record stores, record labels, and musicians have gotten together and put out limited pressings of records to promote the sale of vinyl in this day and age of digital media. Why buy a CD, burn it, and never use it again? Why not get a physical copy on vinyl (which sounds and looks great) that most likely comes with a digital download code? RSD is in its 5th year and it is extremely exciting to record collectors like myself.
So last Saturday, I got up early and went to Newbury Comics in Burlington at about 9:15 am, 45 minutes before they opened, and there was already a line of about 10 people. So we got in line, talked to people about what they wanted and waited around for NC to open. Once they let us in, it was madness. Everyone was trying to get that limited copy of the record they wanted that the store might not have even gotten. We went around to 3 different stores, and didn’t get everything we wanted, but I am definitely satisfied. Heres what I got.
This is the record I was mostly excited about, the reason I went to 3 different stores. Only one store in the area had it.
The Saddest Landscape got together with Topshelf Records to put out this repress of TSL’s first EP limited to 300 copies. It features expanded artwork and is on a beautiful blue marbled 7 inch.
When I found out they were releasing the soundtrack to the movie I was named after, I knew I just had to have it. I got the only one. Pressed on pink vinyl.
Bridge nine put out this sweet little 7″ by Lemuria with a really cool etching on it (you can’t really tell from the photograph.)
Gotta love TTMOE. This 12″ includes the single “King of Spain”, a cover of Paul Simon’s “Graceland” and TTMOE’s “Where I Thought I Met the Angels.”
Super excited to get a DCFC album that is super limited to just 400. My buddy got one too. I think we got the only 2 in the store.
Neither of us expected to get this gem. This picture disc features one song from Atmosphere and one song from Aesop Rock’s new project with Kimya Dawson called “The Uncluded.” This comes on a really cool picture disc, and includes a “third side” of slug telling “a poop story.”
This 7″ includes a song off BH’s new album “Bloom” due out May 15 and a B side called “Equal Mind.”
This split features one song from each band and comes on super cool metallic, oil spill looking 7″.
This 7″ includes 2 B sides from the always great Minus the bear. Mine is hand numbered at 179/1000.
This 12″ has live versions of “Ghost Man on Third”, “Your Own Disaster”, “Faith (When I Let You Down)”, and “Great Romances of the 20th Century.”
Features remixed tracks from the Arcade Fire’s album “The Suburbs.” I really like the artwork on this album.
To be honest, I only got this because it is shaped like a heart.
Who hasn’t heard this song, the original, or one of the 23942 covers various bands have put out. Awesome pink splatter on white vinyl.
The White Stripes – Hand Springs
Limited to ???
2 B-sides from The White Stripes. Black on red vinyl. I figure this’ll be a good record to hang on to for a while.
Nostalgia. I used to see these guys play shows so long ago. Another one to hang on to.
This 7″ includes the title track from a previous album (Nothings Gonna..) and a B side. Alternate artwork. I Dig it.
